Haskoll is currently working as Lead Designer with Network Rail and Birmingham City Council to transform The Pallasades Shopping Centre. With a stunning new atrium roof, the reinvigorated Grand Central shopping centre will provide modern retail space and an array of restaurants and cafes. This is part of a wider project to transform Birmingham New Street Station
As part of the work we have successfully received planning permission for a new 250,000ft² John Lewis department store, sited to the south of The Pallasades. Approximately one third of the footprint sits within the existing centre demise and two thirds forms an extension southwards taking in what was previously a landscaped plaza.
This significant additional retail, along with other proposals for reconfiguring some lower retail level and concourse level retail units, refurbishing the interior mall finishes, modernising the public toilet and baby change facility and refurbishing the multi-storey car park will create a step change to the centre that is vital to its future as a modern retail destination.
Not only will Birmingham benefit from a revitalised and renewed shopping centre but also a world-class station through the Gateway scheme which becomes a catalyst for further regeneration in the area. The project is now progressing and will open in September 2015.
